The trek to Tassie begins tomorrow

At long last South Australia has lifted all restrictions against travelling from Queensland. This means our two week stay at Rainbow Beach is not needed and tomorrow (Thursday) we head west.

Apologies to those family and friends whom we didn’t manage to catch up with this year. Our trip this year seems to have been governed by state border rules. Hopefully we can catch up next year when everyone (well nearly everyone anyway) has been vaccinated and there are no longer border closures.

Our trek home

We have secured overnight accommodation at Innaminka for the night of Saturday 4th and we are booked on the Spirit of Tasmania for the night of Wednesday 8th. We will be averaging 500 kilometres per day to make the boat by next Wednesday. However it is easy to change Spirit of Tasmania bookings if we have to.

The only slight “fly in the ointment” is that a bit of rain is due in the Innaminka/Lyndhurst region whilst we will be there. I don’t think it will be enough to close the track. But of course all our remote travelling gear is in the shed at home! Even the satellite phone is siting in the desk draw.

I have studiously refrained from checking the temperatures in Tasmania as I think they might come as a bit of a shock after our three gorgeous months in Queensland. However we are now in get home mode.

  1. Wow, what a long drive ahead of you, but I really want to see pics from this part of the journey as I’ve never been on some of those roads and to those little towns. Remember, don’t take fruit over that border crossing!!!! Ax

  2. Makes one realise again what a huge continent we live in. In Europe you would have travelled through more than a dozen countries in thesame mileage and you are covering outskirts of 3 states.
All the best on the long way home
