Gorgeous Mudjimba Beach

We are staying at Marcoola Beach but have been swimming at Mudjimba Beach. The track to the beach in front of our apartment complex has a bit of a sandhill to be negotiated if going to the beach so we have found it easier to hop in the car and drive 1.5 kilometres south to Mudjimba which has boardwalk access to the beach.

The last couple of days have been glorious weather, just right for sitting on the beach looking at the board riders. The water is surprisingly warm and I have been swimming every day. I could easily get to like this place!

South Australia have still not changed their border restrictions for Queensland. Unless we are prepared to go into a 14 day quarantine on arrival in South Australia, and we are not, then unfortunatly we need to remove ourselves from the Greater Brisbane area, which includes the Sunshine Coast and Ipswich for 14 days before entering South Australia.

So we will leave here as planned on Monday and return to Ipswich. If the South Australian border restrictions have not changed by then, and there is no indication they will, we will head to Rainbow Beach about Wednesday. Providing we can find suitable accomodation we will stay there for about ten days before heading to Innaminka and the Strezlecki Track.

Booking accomodation is a real issue during this “get back to Tassie” travel planning. I don’t want to book accomodation at Rainbow Beach until the last minute just in case South Australia does change their border restrictions and we can head straight there. Even more importantly until we have secured our South Australian border passes we can not confirm the date we will be at Innaminka so that I can book our overnight accomodation. This is crucial as we will be driving 371 kilometres from Thargomindah to Innaminka and then 496 kilometres Innaminka to Leigh Creek, almost all on dirt tracks/roads.

We have been to Innaminka before, it has a population of around 40 and consists of a pub, store and fuel pump, with not much else. The pub has a small number of accomodation units available and it is crucial we prebook this accomodation before we start our trek. We are too old to try to sleep in the car as the desert temperature dips below freezing!

We live in interesting times.
